This position bears hands-on responsibility for directing the stewardship of Heron’s Head Park (HHP), a 24-acre wetland in Bayview Hunters Point owned by the Port of San Francisco. LEJ is contracted by the Port to provide park stewardship, educational programming, community participation and habitat restoration activities. Over the past decade, thousands of community and student volunteers have transformed the park from an abandoned landfill to one of the most vibrant wetlands on the Bay. The newly-opened EcoCenter at Heron’s Head Park is the Bay Area’s first environmental justice education center and San Francisco’s first off-grid building, featuring an array of alternative building technologies including on-site wastewater treatment.

Remapping Debate is the latest project of the Anti-Discrimination Center (ADC), a small but highly successful civil rights and public policy not-for-profit.

Remapping Debate will be a weekly online journal that probes and investigates the underlying assumptions that constrict and conceal fundamental decisions about the direction of public policy.

Launching this fall, Remapping Debate is intended to be a home of serious, high-quality, non-partisan, long-form journalism. While others seek to run with the pack either by dumbing down their news coverage or by adding tons of commentary (spewed forth seemingly continuously), we will do the hard work of hard reporting.

In producing our stories, we're going to be focusing on the "why" and "why not" questions that are rarely confronted. And we'll be doing that across the full range of domestic public policy issues.

These academic year 2010-11 internships will involve the intern assisting our staff reporters in developing, researching, and reporting stories.

Yes, there will also be quite a bit of non-glamorous back up work.

These are NOT internships for individuals who are interested in being Famous Blogger Number 3,364,495, nor for individuals who want to engage in handicapping the latest partisan political developments (who is up and who is down).

CCS Summary: Since 1969, Center for Community Solutions (CCS) has been creating safe and healthy communities with a core emphasis on the prevention and intervention of sexual assault and relationship violence. Our mission is to end relationship and sexual violence by being a catalyst for caring communities and social justice.

Position Summary: Develops and implements grade-level appropriate academic and enrichment activities in one of the core components of the Youth Program—Academics, Expressive Arts, Health and Wellness, Social Development and Community Building—at two program sites for kindergarten through eighth grade youth. Rotates between the two program sites according to varying schedules.
Provides homework and study skills assistance, with an emphasis on the core components, to all youth in the program. In consultation with and under the direction of the Youth Program Manager and Youth Program Specialist, ensures all activities are closely tied to California educational standards and are congruent with CCS’s mission, vision and values and the Youth Program objectives of increasing academic success, youth leadership, social skills, and overall physical and emotional health.

Essential Job Functions:

• Plan, write, and implement lesson plans in area of specialization on a weekly basis adapting strategies to meet multiple grade levels (K-8th) and developmental needs and interests of program youth.
